This course explores the relationship between oral and written language and the role of speech-language therapists and assistance in literacy. Students learn the component skills that are required to become a skilled reader. This course shares the most up-to-date Science of Reading research and how this translates into best practices for assessment, reading instruction and intervention. Students learn about various descriptive labels associated with reading difficulties such as dyslexia and learning disability (LD) and how neurodiverse profiles can impact the acquisition of literacy.
